When you have made a groove for your track, you may still want to know the average BPM if you are to mix it with another track without that groove later. This tutorial will explain how to find out.
If you're playing with a speed of 6 throughout the whole song, the tempo number shown in the project screen will be the actual BPM. But let's say you made a simple groove:

The number 66 shows that the tempo in the project screen is approximately 66% (actually 2/3) of the actual tempo; the song is faster than the tempo shows. Say you have a tempo of 120 and put the groove above on the whole track. This would speed up the track to 180 BPM: 66%=2/3 (120*3)/2=180. I hope this is not too confusing!
How do you correct this, then? You want it back at 120 BPM but keep the groove? Just do a similar calculation to get what value you should put in tempo: 120*(2/3)=90. So if you have the above groove through a whole track and a tempo of 90 it will run at 120 BPM.
